August Skincare Reset: 7 Simple Tips for Healthier Skin This Month in Ohio

August is here, and if you've lived in Ohio for very long, you know what that means.

Hot afternoons.

Humidity.

Sweaty workouts.

Air conditioning.

And before we know it... fall will be knocking on the door.

This is actually one of my favorite times of the year to check in on your skincare routine. A few small changes now can make a huge difference as we head into the cooler months.

Here are some of the biggest conversations we've been having with clients lately at Wild Orchid Esthetics. These products are customized recommendations after facial appointments and skin assessments.

1. Sweat Isn't the Problem... It's What Happens After

Summer in Ohio means more time outside, more workouts, and a lot more sweating.

Sweating itself isn't bad for your skin.

The problem starts when sweat, oil, and bacteria sit on your face for hours afterward.

If you're heading to work after the gym or spending the day outdoors, consider keeping the Magic Molecule Hypochlorous Acid Spray in your gym bag. It's a quick and easy way to refresh your skin, calm irritation, and help reduce bacteria until you have a chance to properly wash your face.

One small habit like this can go a long way toward preventing unnecessary breakouts.

2. Your Moisturizer and SPF Shouldn't Be the Same Product

One thing we've been talking about with several clients recently is hydration.

Many people rely on their sunscreen as their moisturizer.

While some SPF products provide hydration, they're designed to protect your skin—not necessarily keep it moisturized throughout the day.

Adding a lightweight moisturizer underneath your sunscreen can make a noticeable difference, especially if your skin feels tight or dry by the afternoon.

If you're looking for a simple hydration boost, ask us about Hydro Remedy Gel Serum, available here at Wild Orchid Esthetics, or consider adding a Good Molecules Hyaluronic Acid Serum to your routine

3. Exfoliation Is About Consistency, Not Scrubbing Harder

A lot of people think better skin comes from exfoliating every day.

Usually, it doesn't.

For most people, exfoliating one to two evenings each week is plenty.

One of our favorite beginner-friendly options is the Good Molecules Pineapple Exfoliating Powder. This gentle enzyme exfoliator helps remove dead skin cells, brighten your complexion, and allows your other skincare products to absorb more effectively.

Slow and steady almost always wins.

4. Don't Wait Until Fall to Hydrate Your Skin

Believe it or not, we've seen a lot of dehydrated skin this summer.

Air conditioning, swimming, sun exposure, and heat all pull moisture from your skin.

Adding a hydrating serum can help your skin hold onto moisture and prepare it for the drier weather that's right around the corner.

Some of our favorites include:

  • Good Molecules Hyaluronic Acid Serum

  • Innisfree Green Tea Hyaluronic Acid Serum

Think of August as the month to start preparing—not reacting.

5. Healthy Skin Starts With Clean Tools

This tip doesn't get talked about enough.

If you shave your face, shave your head, or use makeup brushes regularly, make cleaning your tools part of your routine.

Dirty razors, clippers, and brushes can hold onto bacteria, oil, and dead skin cells.

If you use clippers regularly, I recommend the Barbicide Clippercide Aerosol Spray to disinfect and lubricate your blades between uses.

Sometimes clearer skin has less to do with buying another product and more to do with taking care of the tools you're already using.

6. More Products Doesn't Mean Better Skin

One of my favorite things to tell clients is:

"You don't need a 12-step skincare routine."

Some of the best results we've seen recently came from adding just one or two products—not replacing everything.

Maybe that's:

Simple routines are often the easiest to stay consistent with.

7. Healthy Skin Takes Time

If I could leave you with one piece of advice this month, it would be this:

Be patient with your skin.

Dark spots don't disappear overnight.

Dry skin isn't fixed in one facial.

Acne doesn't clear after one good skincare day.

Healthy skin is built one routine at a time.

Small habits.

Small improvements.

Consistent care.

That's where the magic happens.

Looking Ahead to Fall

Over the next several weeks here in Ohio, we'll begin shifting many of our clients toward more hydrating routines as the weather starts to cool.

We'll be talking more about:

  • Repairing the skin barrier

  • Choosing the right moisturizer

  • Hydrating serums

  • Gentle exfoliation

  • Preparing your skin for cooler weather

The best time to prepare your skin for fall is before your skin starts asking for help.

Ohio Fall Skin Prep: Let's Talk About Your Skin Before the Weather Does

Spoiler alert... Ohio is about to do what Ohio does best.

One day it's 87° and humid.

The next morning you're grabbing a hoodie, your pumpkin spice coffee, and wondering why your skin suddenly feels tight, flaky, and completely different.

If you've lived in Dayton, Centerville, Springboro, Beavercreek, Oakwood, Kettering, or anywhere around Southwest Ohio, you already know our weather has a personality of its own.

As estheticians, we start preparing our clients' skin before the seasons change—not after.

So grab your favorite drink and let's chat like we're catching up over coffee.

Your Skin Didn't Get Here Overnight...

One thing I tell almost every client is this:

We can't fix everything in one facial... but we can absolutely start working on it.

I know that's not always the exciting answer.

Trust me—I wish I could wave a magic wand too.

But your skin has been living life with you.

Years of sun exposure.

Stress.

Hormones.

Makeup.

Late nights.

Ohio weather.

All of it adds up over time.

The good news?

Your skin is incredibly smart. It just needs consistency and the right game plan.

Let's Talk About Acne

Here's something I think surprises a lot of people...

Acne isn't just about dirty skin.

Breakouts can be influenced by:

  • Hormones

  • Stress

  • Diet

  • Genetics

  • Skin cell turnover

  • Product buildup

  • Even your pillowcase (yes... seriously!)

That's why two people can use the exact same skincare routine and have completely different results.

A facial can calm inflammation, clean out congestion, and kickstart healthier skin...

But lasting change comes from what happens between appointments.

Skin Prior to Appointment #1

Skin after appointment #3

Those Dark Spots?

Sometimes the breakout disappears...

...but the reminder sticks around.

If you've ever looked in the mirror and thought,

"My acne is gone... so why are the marks still there?"

You're definitely not alone.

Those dark spots are called post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, and they're incredibly common.

The biggest thing I tell clients?

Please don't expect them to disappear overnight.

Consistent sunscreen.

Gentle exfoliation.

Hydration.

Professional treatments.

Those little habits add up into big changes.

Exfoliation: More Isn't Better

Can I let you in on a little secret?

Some people never exfoliate...

Other people are practically sanding their face off.

Neither is the goal.

For most people, exfoliating one to two times per week is plenty.

Think of exfoliation like sweeping your front porch.

You don't need to do it every hour...

...but every once in a while makes everything look a whole lot better.

Skin Prior To Exfoliation Facial

After customized facial and Exfoliation treatment

Your Skin Barrier Is Kind of a Big Deal

If you've been around Wild Orchid Esthetics for a little while, you've probably heard me say the words...

"Let's protect your skin barrier."

Because honestly...

Healthy skin starts there.

When your barrier is healthy:

  • Your skin holds moisture better.

  • Products absorb more effectively.

  • Your skin feels calmer.

  • You're less prone to irritation.

  • Your natural glow shines through.

Sometimes adding hydration makes a bigger difference than buying five new "miracle" products.

IMAGE IDEA

Show hydrating serums, moisturizers, or healthy, glowing skin.

Ohio... We're Looking at You

Believe it or not...

Now is actually the perfect time to start preparing your skin for fall.

Over the next couple of months we'll start seeing:

  • Cooler mornings

  • Less humidity

  • Dry indoor air

  • Heaters running more often

  • Lower moisture levels in the air

Which usually means...

Dryer skin.

Tighter skin.

Flakier skin.

That's why we're already starting conversations about:

  • Hydrating serums

  • Richer moisturizers

  • Gentle exfoliation

  • Barrier repair

  • Seasonal skincare adjustments

Your skincare routine should change just like your wardrobe does.

You wouldn't wear flip-flops in November...

Your skin shouldn't be using the exact same routine year-round either.

IMAGE IDEA

Add an autumn-themed treatment room, pumpkins, cozy blankets, candles, or fall-inspired skincare products.

Our Favorite Appointments Are the Conversations

One of my favorite parts of being an esthetician isn't actually the facial...

It's sitting down and figuring out why your skin is behaving the way it is.

Sometimes the answer is hydration.

Sometimes it's hormones.

Sometimes it's stress.

Sometimes it's simply using products that aren't meant for your skin type.

And honestly...

Sometimes your routine is already awesome.

We just make a couple of tiny adjustments.

Those little changes often create the biggest improvements.

No pressure.

No overwhelming 15-step routines.

Just honest conversations, customized facials, and skincare recommendations that make sense for you.

Because healthy skin isn't about chasing perfection.

It's about showing up for your skin a little bit every day—and letting those small habits turn into lasting results.

We can't wait to see you in the treatment room.

What We're Seeing in the Treatment Room: Common Skincare Concerns Across Dayton, Centerville & Springboro

What We've Been Seeing in the Studio : Common Skin Concerns Across Dayton, Centerville, Springboro & Beyond

If there's one thing we've learned recently at Wild Orchid Esthetics, it's that no two clients walk through our doors with the exact same skincare journey.

Whether someone visits us from Dayton, Centerville, Springboro, Beavercreek, Oakwood, Kettering, or even the University of Dayton area, one thing remains true:

Healthy skin starts with understanding your skin—not following someone else's routine.

Lately, we've been having some incredible conversations with clients about hydration, acne, dark spots, congestion, exfoliation, and building skincare routines that actually make sense for their lifestyle.

Personalized Skincare Is the Future

One of the biggest misconceptions we see is that everyone should be using the same viral skincare routine they found on TikTok or Instagram.

The truth?

Your best friend may absolutely love a product that completely irritates your skin.

That's because skincare isn't one-size-fits-all.

At Wild Orchid Esthetics in the Dayton, Ohio area, every facial begins with a conversation. We want to understand:

  • What concerns you the most?

  • What products are you already using?

  • What has worked?

  • What hasn't?

  • What is your lifestyle like?

Only then do we make recommendations that fit your skin.

Hydration Has Been One of the Biggest Themes This Summer

Many people assume dry skin only becomes a concern during Ohio winters.

Surprisingly, we've been seeing significant dehydration throughout the summer months as well.

Air conditioning, sun exposure, outdoor activities, swimming, frequent cleansing, and even certain acne products can all leave your skin feeling tight, flaky, or uncomfortable.

Hydrated skin isn't just about comfort.

Proper hydration can help improve:

  • Skin texture

  • Product absorption

  • Skin barrier function

  • Overall glow

  • Makeup application

  • Long-term skin health

Sometimes the biggest transformation comes from simply adding a quality hydrating serum and a moisturizer that's designed to nourish the skin—not relying on sunscreen alone for hydration.

Acne Isn't Always the Problem—Sometimes It's What Acne Leaves Behind

Another common conversation we've had recently involves post-acne discoloration.

Many clients are no longer experiencing active breakouts, but they're frustrated by the dark spots that remain afterward.

Rather than chasing aggressive treatments, we often recommend:

  • Gentle exfoliation

  • Consistent sunscreen use

  • Hydrating ingredients

  • Gradual skin renewal

  • Professional facial treatments

Healthy skin isn't built overnight.

It's built through consistency.

Exfoliation Should Help Your Skin—Not Hurt It

One trend we've noticed is that many people fall into one of two categories:

They never exfoliate...

or...

They're exfoliating far too aggressively.

Neither approach produces healthy skin.

Most people benefit from exfoliating one to two times per week, depending on their skin type and goals.

Gentle exfoliation helps remove dead skin buildup, improve product penetration, smooth texture, and encourage brighter-looking skin—all while respecting the skin barrier.

Sometimes the Best Recommendation Is...Almost Nothing

One thing that surprises many new clients is that we don't always recommend a complete skincare overhaul.

In fact, some of our favorite appointments recently have involved telling clients:

"Your routine is already really good."

Instead of replacing everything, we simply make a few thoughtful additions that complement what's already working.

Maybe that's:

  • A hydrating serum

  • A gentle enzyme exfoliator

  • A moisturizer better suited to their skin type

  • A hypochlorous acid spray for mask wear

  • A targeted product for post-acne marks

Sometimes one or two changes make a much bigger difference than buying ten new products.

Your Skin Barrier Matters More Than You Think

Healthy skin starts with a healthy skin barrier.

When your skin barrier is functioning properly, your skin is better able to:

  • Hold onto moisture

  • Defend itself from irritation

  • Recover after treatments

  • Reduce unnecessary inflammation

  • Maintain a smoother, healthier appearance

That's why so many of our recommendations focus on hydration, gentle exfoliation, and products that support your skin instead of overwhelming it.

Progress Happens Between Appointments

Professional facials and customized treatments absolutely make a difference.

But the real transformation happens at home.

The products you use every morning.

The consistency of your evening routine.

Daily sunscreen.

Proper hydration.

These are the habits that create lasting change.

Our goal isn't to send you home with dozens of products.

Our goal is to help you build a routine you'll actually stick with.

2026 is OUR Year!

At Wild Orchid Esthetics, 2026 is all about growth, intention, and helping our clients build real, lasting skincare results. We’re excited to share what’s coming and how we’re elevating the experience for everyone who trusts us with their skin.

One of the biggest additions for 2026 is our new loyalty program. We are now offering a monthly membership option that allows clients to earn savings while committing to consistent skincare. Skincare works best when it’s treated as a routine service, not something you do only when there’s a problem. This program helps clients stay on track, prioritize their skin health, and enjoy exclusive savings and benefits along the way. It also makes professional skincare more accessible and easier to budget for, encouraging long-term results rather than short-term fixes.

As we move into 2026, clients are becoming more educated and intentional about their skincare choices. What they want most is personalization and treatments that actually work with their skin, not against it. Enzyme therapy is one of the most requested services because it provides gentle exfoliation, supports skin renewal, improves texture, and delivers results without harsh irritation or downtime. It’s ideal for clients who want effective treatments while still being mindful of sensitive or reactive skin.

Customized facials are also a major focus. Clients are no longer looking for one-size-fits-all treatments. They want services tailored to their specific skin concerns, whether that includes acne, aging, dryness, hyperpigmentation, or overall skin maintenance. Customized facials allow us to adjust products, techniques, and treatments based on what your skin needs at that moment, creating a truly personalized experience every visit.

At Wild Orchid Esthetics, our goal for 2026 is to help clients feel confident, cared for, and supported in their skincare journey. By introducing our loyalty program and focusing on advanced, customized treatments like enzyme therapy and personalized facials, we’re making skincare more consistent, intentional, and results-driven than ever before. If you’re ready to make skincare a priority and not just a luxury, 2026 is the perfect time to start.

Why Fall Is the Perfect Time for a Chemical Peel in Dayton, Ohio

As the leaves change in Dayton, Ohio and the crisp fall air sets in, it’s also the perfect time to refresh and renew your skin. Fall marks the beginning of chemical peel season, and for good reason. Cooler weather means less sun exposure, making it the ideal time to treat your skin with more advanced services like chemical peels and dermaplaning.

What Is a Chemical Peel?

A chemical peel is a professional treatment that uses a chemical solution to gently exfoliate the top layer of the epidermis. By removing dead and damaged skin cells, this process triggers the body’s natural regeneration process, encouraging the growth of new, healthy skin.

Clients in Dayton are loving chemical peels because they:

  • Improve the appearance of acne scars

  • Help correct hyperpigmentation and dark spots

  • Reduce fine lines and wrinkles

  • Reverse signs of sun damage

  • Smooth uneven texture

In short, a chemical peel is one of the most effective ways to restore a radiant, youthful glow just in time for the holiday season.

Why Should You Add A Dermaplane to Your Fall Skincare Routine?

On a case-by-case basis, it’s also a good idea to pair your chemical peel with a dermaplane service. Dermaplaning removes peach fuzz and surface debris, allowing the chemical peel to penetrate deeper for maximum results. This combination can give your skin an even smoother, brighter finish.

Our Dayton esthetics clients often see a noticeable difference when combining these two treatments—and we’ll help you decide if it’s right for your skin during your consultation.

Why Fall Is the Best Time for a Peel in Ohio

The Ohio cold is just around the corner, and with it comes dry air that can make your skin look dull and dehydrated. By scheduling your chemical peel in the fall, you’ll give your skin the chance to repair, regenerate, and strengthen before winter weather sets in. Protecting and prepping your skin now helps minimize damage later.

Book Your Appointment in Dayton Before Winter Hits

If you’ve been considering a chemical peel or dermaplane treatment, now is the time to act. Don’t wait until the cold air starts to hurt your face and dry out your skin. Investing in your skin health this fall will have you glowing well into the new year.

Ready to transform your skin? Book your chemical peel appointment today in Dayton, Ohio and let us help you look and feel your best before winter arrives.

🍂 5 Fall Skincare Tips for Glowing Skin in Ohio 🍂

As the weather cools down here in Ohio, your skin needs a little extra love to stay hydrated and radiant. Here are my top tips for keeping your glow all season long:

Hydrate, inside and out – Drink plenty of water and use a moisturizer that locks in hydration.

Switch to a cream-based cleanser – Foaming cleansers can strip your skin in the colder months; cream cleansers keep it soft and nourished. We feature and trust brands like DMK ( Only available for active clients and future clients) and Glymed +, Face Reality and Mixi Skincare

Don’t skip the SPF – Even with cloudy skies, UV rays are still present and can cause damage.

Exfoliate gently – gently scrub off dead skin cells once or twice a week to help your products absorb better

Add a hydrating mask or serum – Ingredients like hyaluronic acid and vitamin C will keep your skin plump and glowing. Before applying these products to your skin, consult your skincare professional as too much or an improper use of these products can also be ineffective or harmful

What To Know Heading Into the Crisp Air Season?

Everyone’s skin is different and unique to your experience. Different situations, new environments, stress, diets and etc. can effect how your skin reacts on the surface level. What works for one person may not work for another. That’s where I come in as your licensed esthetician—to give you clarity, so you’re not aimlessly spending money on the next trendy, gimmicky product you see in a commercial while binging your favorite Netflix shows.
