Welcome Chloe ,
Wild Orchid Esthetics has prepared an aftercare plan for you today.
Thank you for trusting Wild Orchid Esthetics with your skin, Chloe!
During your appointment, we identified three main concerns we'd like to focus on: hyperpigmentation, dryness, and uneven skin texture.
Because your skin is rich in melanin, we're going to be especially mindful of irritation. Inflammation can sometimes lead to additional dark spots, so our goal is to improve your complexion while keeping your skin healthy, hydrated, and protected.
We're combining professional Face Reality skincare with a few affordable products you can find at Target.
What We're Working On
Improving the appearance of dark spots and hyperpigmentation
Smoothing uneven skin texture
Replenishing moisture and reducing dryness
Supporting a healthy skin barrier
Preventing additional discoloration
Finding sunscreen that doesn't leave a white or gray cast
Recommendation #1: Cleanse Without Stripping Your Skin
Professional Option: Face Reality Barrier Balance Creamy Cleanser
Because your skin is experiencing dryness, this is my first recommendation.
This creamy cleanser gently removes dirt and impurities while helping maintain your skin's natural moisture barrier.
It can help:
Keep your skin hydrated and comfortable
Reduce tightness after cleansing
Support a healthy skin barrier
Prepare your skin for pigmentation treatments
How to use: Every morning and evening.
Alternative Option: Face Reality L-Mandelic Face & Body Wash
If we decide your skin is ready for additional exfoliation, this is another option we can introduce.
Mandelic acid can help gently remove dead skin cells, improve uneven texture, and brighten the appearance of discoloration.
Because your skin is already dry, I wouldn't recommend starting with this cleanser every day.
We'll gradually introduce it as your skin becomes more hydrated and comfortable.
If we introduce this cleanser, we'll adjust your other mandelic acid treatments to avoid over-exfoliation.
Both Face Reality cleansers are available through Wild Orchid Esthetics.
Recommendation #2: Target the Chin + Mouth Breakouts
Face Reality 5% L-Mandelic Serum
Also available for purchase at clinic
This is going to be one of the main treatment products in your routine.
Mandelic acid provides gentle exfoliation and can help with:
Congestion
Clogged pores
Uneven texture
Post-breakout discoloration
Overall tone and brightness
We're going to introduce this slowly instead of immediately using it every day.
Start With:
Monday + Thursday evenings
Cleanse → L-Mandelic Serum → Moisturizer
Once we see how your skin responds, we can decide whether we want to increase how frequently you're using it.
More exfoliation isn't always better.
Recommendation #3: Help Fade the Appearance of Dark Spots
Target Option: Good Molecules Discoloration Correcting Serum
This is an affordable option I'd love for you to add to your routine.
It contains ingredients such as a tranexamic acid derivative and niacinamide that can help improve the appearance of uneven pigmentation.
It can help with:
Post-acne dark spots
Uneven skin tone
Overall brightness
The appearance of discoloration
How to use: Start once daily in the morning, after cleansing and before moisturizing.
We're looking for gradual improvement, not overnight changes.
Recommendation #4: Replenish Moisture
Professional Option: Face Reality Cran-Peptide Cream
Since dryness is one of your main concerns, we want to make sure your moisturizer is doing its job.
This is a richer professional moisturizer that can help support hydration and keep your skin comfortable while we work on pigmentation and texture.
Available through Wild Orchid Esthetics.
Target Alternative: Vanicream Daily Facial Moisturizer
This fragrance-free moisturizer contains ceramides and hyaluronic acid to help support your skin barrier.
It's a great everyday option for skin experiencing dryness.
How to use: Every morning and evening.
Choose whichever moisturizer feels most comfortable on your skin. If you're still experiencing tightness or flaking, let us know so we can make adjustments.
Recommendation #5: Find a Sunscreen That Doesn't Leave a Gray Cast
Target Option: Black Girl Sunscreen SPF 30
One of the concerns you mentioned was that your current sunscreen leaves a gray or ashy appearance on your skin.
We definitely want to change that!
Sunscreen should protect your skin without making you feel uncomfortable wearing it.
Black Girl Sunscreen SPF 30 is formulated with melanin-rich skin in mind and is designed to blend without the chalky white finish associated with some sunscreens.
Because your skin is already dry, its moisturizing finish may also be a great fit.
How to use: Every morning as the last step of your skincare routine. Reapply every two hours when outdoors.
Daily sunscreen is especially important when we're treating hyperpigmentation.
If your pigmentation is stubborn, we may also explore a tinted sunscreen containing iron oxides for additional visible-light protection.
Your Daily Routine
Morning — Every Day
Cleanse: Face Reality Barrier Balance Creamy Cleanser
Treat pigmentation: Good Molecules Discoloration Correcting Serum
Moisturize: Face Reality Cran-Peptide Cream or Vanicream Daily Facial Moisturizer
Protect: Black Girl Sunscreen SPF 30
That's it! We're keeping your mornings simple, hydrating, and protective.
Evening — Monday + Thursday
Pigmentation + Texture Treatment
Cleanser → Face Reality 5% L-Mandelic Serum → Moisturizer
Start these treatment nights only after your skin has adjusted to the basic routine.
Evening — Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday + Sunday
Hydration + Recovery
Cleanser → Moisturizer
Once your skin is comfortable with the routine, we can discuss adding your discoloration serum to your recovery evenings.
A Few Things That Can Help Your Skin
Because we're working on pigmentation, we want to avoid unnecessary irritation.
Avoid picking at blemishes or textured areas.
Skip harsh scrubs and aggressive exfoliation.
Wash your face with lukewarm water instead of hot water.
Moisturize consistently, even on treatment nights.
Wear sunscreen every day, including during Ohio's colder months.
Introduce new products gradually rather than all at once.
Let us know if you experience burning, peeling, or excessive dryness.
Remember, darker skin tones can be more prone to lingering discoloration after inflammation, so gentle and consistent skincare is especially important.
Give Your Skin Time
Chloe, pigmentation doesn't develop overnight, and it won't disappear overnight either.
Our first priority is getting your skin hydrated, comfortable, and healthy.
From there, we'll gradually focus on improving your texture and reducing the appearance of dark spots.
You may notice improvements in hydration within a few weeks, while pigmentation can take several months of consistent care to visibly fade.
We're not trying to change your natural skin tone. We're working toward a smoother, more even-looking complexion while celebrating the beautiful skin you're already in.
At Wild Orchid Esthetics, our goal is to help you understand your skin and feel confident taking care of it every day between appointments.
We can't wait to see your progress, Chloe!
